More Britons than ever before tried online gambling despite the worsening economic climate. This is not surprising to me, because the credit crisis means more people choose to stay rather than get out, and what better way for people to spend time indoors by winning money!
The results of an extensive survey by the UK Gambling Commission released in recent weeks indicate that the quality of the online gaming site’s 7meter and the prizes, bonuses, and jackpots offered continue to attract players because of the increase in their potential monetary value.
Research by ICM shows that surveys conducted last year (including the last quarter of the year when the recession loomed) found an increase in the number of people who said they had used one form of long-distance gambling or another.
The news will come as a big boost for the online gambling sector in the UK as it prepares for a difficult year with the current economic climate which wants to deteriorate before finally staying.
The Commission’s study revealed that 9.7 percent of the 8,000 adults surveyed had gambled using computers, cellphones or interactive / digital television during the past month. This compared with 8.8 percent for 2007 and 7.2 percent for 2006.
The trend seems to be – online gambling is becoming more accessible thanks to 3G cellular technology and the increase in digital TV people are spending more time gambling online than ever before.
This trend is likely to continue during a biting recession that will benefit the online casino industry tenfold during these difficult times.
